Charcuterie boards shouldn’t be limited to just adults - get the kids in on the fun! Because of the easy snack-ability, the concept of a charcuterie board is perfect for kids. Not to mention, you can pick and choose what you grab to eat, making it perfect for picky eaters. Whether you want to make a fun after school snack, switch up your dinner-time strategy, or serve it at a party, kid’s charcuterie boards can be used for a variety of occasions and can adapt to even the pickiest of eaters.
So, let’s talk about what ingredients to use, how to build the board, and inspo for serving kid’s charcuterie boards.
Kid’s Charcuterie Board Ingredients
Because kids can tend to be picky eaters, your usual charcuterie array might have to make some kid-friendly swaps. The great news is that charcuterie boards can actually be a nutritious way for kids to get some fruits, veggies, and protein in their diet.
It can be helpful to pick a few ingredients from each food group and go from there, so you know you’re creating a well-balanced board.
Here are some ideas of what to include:
Hard boiled eggs
Sugar snap peas
Sliced bell peppers
Pepper jack cheese
Peanut butter filled pretzels
Peanut butter cups
Mini sandwiches (think PB&J, ham and cheese, etc.)
Tortilla roll-ups (think PB&J, ham and cheese, etc.)
There are endless possibilities and combinations based on the occasion that you are gearing your kid’s charcuterie board towards. Whether you want a healthy after-school snack, and include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, or want to serve your board at a party and mix in some candy and cupcakes - there’s something for everyone!
Building a Kid’s Charcuterie Board
Building a kid’s charcuterie board is incredibly similar to creating a normal charcuterie board. When prepping ingredients, make sure they are bite size and easy to eat. When building the board, we like to start with bigger items - such as bowls of dip, and place them on the board. Then we like to add ingredients in clusters, rows, or lines.
