Here at Mmm...boards we have two priorities: charcuterie boards & dogs. What better thing than to combine them and make a charcuterie board for dogs.
Thanks to Instagram and some creative dog-lovers out there who have shown us how, we’ve learned that it is possible to combine the two. Charcuterie boards for dogs. Yep, you heard that right. Also goes by Chewcuterie, barkuterie, and chowcuterie; whichever you prefer, it's guaranteed to be adorable. Actually, it also can be super nutritious for pups, especially when laden with fruits, veggies, and proteins.
What to put on a charcuterie board for dogs
Obviously, you aren’t going to give your furry friend a charcuterie board with the same ingredients as yours. The board needs to be dog safe, which means certain ingredients are out of the question. Here’s some of our do’s and don'ts for puppy charcuterie
Your dog’s favorite treats, training treats, meat strips and sticks, and kibble
Plain peanut butter
Plain hard boiled eggs
Cooked, boneless salmon
Cheese (in small quantities)
While these ingredients are appropriate in human charcuterie, they are unhealthy or even toxic for dogs to consume.
For more information about what your dog can and cannot eat we recommend checking this site or asking your vet.
Now that you have your ingredients, on to assembly.
We highly recommend taking a look at this board by Ain’t too Proud to Meg for inspo. She even cut the produce and cheese into different shapes, an adorable touch!
Another totally creative idea from The Reluctant Entertainer is seen above, putting a few toys on the board for a little extra doggy fun!
We are huge Trader Joe’s fans, which means we have to insert a shameless plug for some of our favorite products. Trader Joe’s has our hearts because they don’t neglect the pups in our families; they have tons of tasty treats for your dog. Here’s a few recommendations from the dogs of Mmm…boards to get you started:
- Chew-Cuterie Dog Treats
This is our top recommendation, for obvious reasons. This assortment of treats features cheddar cheese, salami, provolone cheese, and prosciutto flavors in a variety of shapes. These will be an attention-getter on your next Chewcuterie board.
- Natural Peanut Butter Dog Treats
These treats are completely natural, and made in the same bakery with the same ingredients for people food- quality treats for your precious pooch!
- Salmon Jerky Dog Treats
If your dog has gourmet taste, you have to get them these salmon jerky dog treats. They are made with salmon from the waters of Northern Scotland without antibiotics and smoked over natural hardwood.
And with that, you have all the tools you’ll need to make your dream charcuterie board for dogs.
Now your furry friend can enjoy a canine-safe version of your favorite trendy snack. Having a party soon? We recommend making a charcuterie board and a chew-cuterie board and telling your friends to bring their dogs - a guaranteed paw-fect time.
